14th September 2007

Week two already. Having been complimented on our communication especially via the newsletter, we thought we would keep it up even though Mr Hipshon is visiting the Lake District along with Mr Spickett, Mrs Johnson and the seniors.
Short and sweet is the order of the day and here it is!
Judith WatkinsYear Four
Year Four have been looking at the need for school rules and after some thoughtful discussion, have come up with the following concise but essential list.
1.) Listen to the teacher
2.) Show you are sorry by behaving well
3.) Make the teacher happy by paying attention
4.) Put your hand up to speak
5.) Watch the teacher when they are teaching
6.) Do go to the toilet before the lesson
This is an active positive approach towards good learning in the classroom and is valued by the children as their own work. Here’s hoping!

James for working hard and attending.
Matthew for enthusiasm in art and willingness.
Joshua for good work in maths.
Harry and Joseph for improved reading.

Art
In Art we have started the term by observing line, shape and tone.
We began by discovering different ways of using a pencil to draw and shade with. Looking at simple objects, we applied these techniques to draw the shapes and put in the shadows we could see, dark shading to half tone and highlights. In the second week we drew the objects on a larger scale using charcoal and white chalk, discovering the dramatic effects to be achieved with this medium. (Work will be displayed in the corridor!)

Lost Property
Lost property will be on a table in the entrance from Tuesday to Friday after school. This includes a barely worn pair of size 4 PE pumps without a name. I cannot emphasise enough the importance of naming garments for care and ease of handling if lost. If using an ink pen it needs to be permanent or it will come out in the wash. Unclaimed articles will be removed from the premises.
