A full week
I must admit to have had a busy week. On Sunday I took eight youngsters to York
for the York and District Chess Championships – four present pupils and
four past pupils. Every one played well and I would particularly like to mention
Jabari Carr who scored 21⁄2/6in his first ever tournament. Well done also
to Anamay Shetty, Euan Tanna Fenton and Amarri Dixon Blair who took part.
On Monday evening the Under 11 netball team had the special treat of watching
the England Netball team take on Malawi at the Sheffield Arena. Malawi were
good, but England were relentlessly fantastic, playing with speed accuracy,
athleticism and sheer skill. They ran out as 66-36 winners.
On Wednesday the Under 10 netball team welcomed the inexperienced girls from
Wakefield Tutorial College in two games. The ‘B’ team won 13-1 and
the A team won 25-0. The Under 10’s have not lost a single game this year.
On Thursday evening the Under 11 team attended the Leeds Schools Netball Association
presentation evening at Woodhouse Grove School. They were presented with their
League Championship shield and medals, and the tournament runners-up medals.
It was a very proud evening for everyone.
Next Week
On Tuesday evening after school the Under 11 team begin their task of proving
not only to be the best independent school team in the city but the best school
team overall. They play in the regional area tournament which has a place in
the final at Leeds Met at stake. The tournament takes place at Oakwood Primary
School starting at 3.30pm. Do come and support if you can.
On Wednesday the first rounders fixture of the term is at Moorlands (2.30pm)

Match Report England v Malawi
A great start to a wonderful match. England had a great victory against Malawi
winning 66 to 36 a thirty point difference.
Even though England won the netball match there was an outstanding player that
I admired most from the Malawi team, Mary Waya, a superb player aged 38. A role
model for women’s netball.
“The Malawi team had a different style of playing netball” explained
Nigel Holl, England’s Netball Director, “with a lot of sharp passes,
cheeky moves, rapid footwork they seem afraid of no one”.
I agree, do you?

Swimathon
The pupils and the staff and parents team swam a total of 10000 metres for Marie
Curie Cancer Care at the Hydro, Harrogate.
We had fun, got medals and…..let’s see how much money we raised.
I’ll let you know as soon as it’s all in.
