Up and Running
After the welcome half term break we are up and running with a very busy half
term in the lead up to Christmas. As well as the usual Christmas events there
is the concert, the theatre visit and a spate of fixtures. This week has been
very busy, with the Rambert Dance Workshop yesterday and the Halloween Party
tonight.
Thanks to Leeds Carnegie
We were lucky to be given free tickets for the Super League netball match between
Leeds Carnegie and Northern Thunder last Saturday. Leeds were fantastic, having
signed up the ex-England attack force of Tracey Neville and Karen Grieg, and
won the match 54-27. I highly recommend watching the team in their next home
match on the 24th November at Leeds Met. Many thanks to Gerry Plant for inviting
us and mentioning the school in the match program!
Next Week
Our first heavyweight contest of the season is on Tuesday at Gateways (4pm).
This is a league match so a full strength team is needed!
We also have an Under 10 match at home to Bronte House on Friday (2pm).
On Friday morning the local police will be visiting to talk to the children
about
road safety. In my opinion you can’t have enough of that.
Displays
There is now some excellent display work up around the school. Please do come
in and have a look at it. Please feel free to visit the Year 5 and 6 classroom
(Room 1) where there are some great Autumn poems on display. The work was inspired
by Keats’ ‘Ode to Autumn’ and by collecting leaves and berries
on an Autumnal walk in the park. Here are two poems from that display.
Designing Autumn
I chose Autumn to be the crossroads
In Time between Summer and Winter,
The rainy season, the misty season.
I chose Autumn
I chose Autumn as the time that fills
All fruit with sweet juice and softens
The skin and flesh of apples and reddens them
I chose Autumn
I chose Autumn to brown the leaves
And drop them from the trees
So winter doesn’t freeze them
I chose Autumn
Holly Thornber (Year 5)
Autumn
Smooth brown conkers lying on the ground
Twittering birds as the sun sets, what a sound,
Golden leaves fall down from the trees,
Listen to the melody of the honey bees,
All the leaves change colour, yellow, orange, red
On a Saturday morning get out of bed,
For the red breast feeds in the golden light of the sun,
Watching him fly can be heap loads of fun,
Listen to the crunching leaves under your feet,
And taste the juicy apples all for you to eat.

to Wednesday 12th December at 9.00 am.
Rambert Dance Workshop
This was terrific!
Since I went to The Grand to see the company perform last night, the article
will be in next week’s newsletter.
By the way, the performance was memorable. How do they do what they do??
