Mega Success
Congratulations to all the pupils who went to York last Monday for the chess
Mega Final. Of the seven pupils representing the school six of them qualified
for the National Giga Final in Manchester next July. Rachel Brown was crowned
the Under 7 suprema and Lois Coleman won the Under 9 title, her second success
in as many years. David Roberts scored 4/6 in the Under 7 boys section to finish
joint first, and Jabari Carr the same score in the Under 8 boys to qualify.
Anamay Shetty was able to repeat the score in the Under 9 boys and the most
remarkable performance was from Tyrell Walwyn who scored 5/6 in the Under 11
boys section, to finish 2nd out of 49 boys.
Further Alcuin connections were Yasmin Niksaz winning the Under 13 girls title
and Amanda Hipshon scored her 5th Mega Final title to win the Under 15 girls.
It was a great day and I know the pupils are looking forward to their trip to
Manchester.
Next Week
Its SATs! Year 6 will take the exams next week and Years 3-5 will also sit the
optional papers in English and Maths. Good luck everyone!
On Tuesday we have a vital Chess league match at Richmond House. Defeat will
mean failure to qualify for the semi-finals of the league – unthinkable!
Athletics report
The girls lost their athletics match at Gateways on Thursday by 90-76. Despite
that there were some good performances. We won the relay convincingly and Brie
took first place in the 100m, long jump and high jump. Jaimi Ann took second
in the throwing and the 100m.

School Uniform
A lady unconnected with the school, but who passes by regularly, commented on
how lovely the children look in their uniform. She particularly liked seeing
the girls in their straw hats.
I thought this was a very nice comment and illustrated what good ambassadors
for the school the children can be. The uniform is distinctive and designed
to reflect the best in children. It is important that when we are noticed in
incidental ways like this, the comments are favourable and this reflects the
best in the school. This is what we stand for as a school community.
Thank you for maintaining high standards in dress.
During the summer shorts and short sleeved shirts for the boys are by far the
most comfortable for them.
Hats should be worn to and from school and on outings where appropriate so please
ensure girls have summer hats.

Abhinaya Concert
Reminder for the Abhinaya Concert on Wednesday 21st May at 2.00pm.
Please can all girls make sure that they have a long sleeved top to wear with
their Abhinaya skirt, either white or a colour matching their skirt. Can they
make sure they have the correct top at school for next Wednesday’s lesson.
Many thanks.

Next Year’s Fees
I must apologise for not including a place for your child’s/children’s
name on the letter sent to you regarding the payment for next year’s fees.
Before you return them would you please print your child’s name somewhere
on the letter?
Would the parents who have returned the letter and think that maybe they have
not included their child’s name, please let me know. I have two with no
name.
Please either tell Liz or email me at Bursar@alcuinschool.co.uk
