ALCUIN SCHOOL RECOGNISES PUPIL’S OUTSTANDING CONTRIBUTION
In recognition of her outstanding contribution to the school, Alcuin School
pupil Rosie Wormald has been presented with an award by well respected Leeds
musician and conductor, Dr Simon Lindley at the school’s annual prizegiving.
The school holds an annual prizegiving in which it recognises the individual
achievements of pupils and the qualities they have displayed during the course
of the academic year. Dr Lindley has a long standing connection with the school
because of its interest in the arts and music and was asked to present the prizes
at this year’s awards.
Year six pupil Rosie Wormald was selected for the Outstanding Contribution to
the School Award because of her commitment to the school and enthusiastic involvement
in all aspects of school life. In the last twelve months Rosie has captained
the school netball team, represented the school in cross country, athletics
and Under 11’s chess competitions. In addition to this Rosie was highly
commended for her support of her friend, Abigail Langstaff, during her recent
battle with Leukaemia.
The prizegiving evening was also an opportunity to celebrate the success of
the school’s recent Ofsted report and victories in the UK Chess Challenge
which were all commended by Dr Lindley. Dr Lindley also had particular praise
for the children’s musical capabilities and the school orchestra.
John Hipshon, Headteacher at The Alcuin School, said: “Our prizegiving
evening was an excellent way to draw the term to a close and we were delighted
to have Dr Lindley oversee the event. We are extremely proud of Rosie and we
feel it is important to recognise our pupil’s strengths and achievements.”
